As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance safety on campus, the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety is committed to testing our various mass notification methods to demonstrate how you can receive information during a threat or emergency. These messages ask people to take specific actions for their own safety and provide critical information. THIS MESSAGE IS ONLY A TEST.
As a current student, faculty or staff member of Michigan State University, you are automatically added as a recipient of the MSU Alert mass notification system. Students, we ask that you take a moment to update your contact information in the Student Information System (SIS). Employees, please update your contact information in the MSU EBS Portal. More information on how to do so can be found here
Once your contact information is updated, please log in to the MSU Alert portal to customize your notification preferences. Watch this video to learn more. In addition, you can select additional MSU locations you prefer to receive information about (Grand Rapids or Flint). You may select more than one location. Those interested in receiving alerts from an additional city, county or state emergency notification system may visit the MSU Alert website for more information on how to register.
Once you are no longer an active student, faculty or staff member, you will be removed from the MSU Alert system. You may still receive MSU Alerts by downloading the SafeMSU App or by texting MSUALERT to 888777. Message and data rates may apply.
MSU DPPS is committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming community for all. If you have questions or need support regarding the MSU Alert system, please submit a request for help by completing this form located at alert.msu.edu. All members of the MSU community are encouraged to report to MSU DPPS any situation or incident on campus that involves a significant emergency or dangerous situation that may pose an immediate or ongoing threat to the health or safety of students and/or employees on campus. MSU DPPS can be contacted anytime by calling 517-355-2221 or calling/texting 9-1-1 for emergencies.
