Update - Wells Hall Wells Hall is CLOSED for the remainder of this week, through May 1. Additional information was received early this morning suggesting further evaluation of the building is needed. There continues to be no known threat to the campus community. Students who still have finals scheduled in the building will be notified by the Registrar’s Office of an alternate exam location. Community Update – Wells Hall

This is an update to the public safety activity at Wells Hall. The matter at Wells Hall has been resolved, and the environment is safe. Wells Hall will reopen at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, and all scheduled exams will continue as planned. This is the final update.
Alternative arrangements for exams scheduled to take place today at Wells Hall have been made and communicated via email and are available on SIS. Questions regarding exams should be directed to the appropriate instructor. Alternative exam locations will be communicated by the Registrar’s Office.

Wells Hall Evacuation

Due to the presence of some unknown chemicals that were located in the building, Wells Hall has been evacuated as a safety precaution while public safety officials work to properly identify the chemical. There is no known threat to campus and these actions are a precaution. Please do not enter Wells Hall and avoid the area until further notice.

Date Reported: February 02, 2026 Date Occurred: February 01, 2026, through February 02, 2026 Location: East of Lot 109 near University Village Apartments Description of Incident: On February 02, 2026 at , Michigan State University Police received a report of Series of Motor Vehicle Thefts that occurred at the East Lansing campus - East of Lot 109 near University Village Apartments. The attempted motor vehicle thefts occurred overnight between 8:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. Two motor vehicles were damaged in what appears to be attempted thefts. Suspect Information: Unknown Vehicle Information: Unknown Safety Tips: Motor Vehicle Thefts - We encourage community members to reduce their chances of being a victim of motor vehicle theft by: securing doors and windows, parking in well-lit areas, consider placing u-lock through rear tire of moped, keep valuables out of sight.
